The Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG) will present ‘Wind Generation in Power Systems: A Short Course on the Integration and Interconnection of Wind Power Plants into Electric Power Systems,’ Sept. 9-12, 2008, at the La Playa Hotel in Carmel, Calif.
Co-sponsored by the American Wind Energy Association and Energynautics, the course, which UWIG began offering in 2005, addresses issues related to interconnecting wind generation to electric utility power systems. Covered topics include wind turbine generator technology, modeling for power system analysis, and conducting planning and operating studies.
Highlights include:
- costs and benefits of large scale integration of wind power,
- wind turbine design concepts,
- capacity value and cost of ancillary services,
- U.S. and European experiences with wind power integration, and
- evaluation and management of the uncertainty of short-term power variations.
The course will be taught by Thomas Ackermann from Energynautics, Nick Miller and Kara Clark from GE Energy, Bob Zavadil from EnerNex Corp., Steve Saylors and Martin Hogdahl from Vestas, Mark Ahlstrom from WindLogics, Michael Milligan from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Dale Osborn from the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator.
