Vectora Transportation LLC has opened a rail-served distribution center for wind energy components and other cargoes in East Peoria, Ill. The facility is served by the Toledo, Peoria, and Western Railway (TPW), enabling access for the site to five Class I railroads (UP, BNSF, CN, CSX and NS).
The Vectora facility offers more than 15 acres of storage space and 5,000 feet of live loading/unloading track. The adjacent TPW yard can facilitate the termination of both manifest and unit train service at the site.
‘Rail is becoming an increasingly important mode for the wind industry,’ says Thomas Loftus, chief financial officer at Vectora Transportation. ‘With this many Class I connections, our facility is unique in its ability to support wind farm developments in Illinois and throughout the upper Midwest.’
In addition to full-time management and security staff, Vectora will equip the property with crane and rigging equipment capable of handling all types of wind energy components, including nacelles, blades, hubs and tower sections.
