Sun Prairie, Wis.-based Wave Wind LLC has broken ground on a new lay-down yard in Sweetwater, Texas. This full-service, 60-acre site will provide wind project developers a safe location to store wind turbine components.
According to Wave Wind, lay-down yards are an increasingly important feature of the wind energy supply chain. Key requirements include the following:
– proximity to shipping ports, rail spurs, wind farm clusters and grade-A highway networks;
– equipment and expertise to off-load and load wind turbine components safely and efficiently;
– ample room to allow for the smart organization and placement of blades and nacelles; and
– 24-hour security.
‘Once completed, Wave Wind's Sweetwater lay-down yard will meet each of these requirements,’ say Tim Laughlin, president of Wave Wind. ‘As a result, it will immediately become an integral part of our material-handling services, helping us to better ensure the safe, on-time and on-budget delivery of wind turbine components.’
