Vestas and ABB have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop power technology and system integration solutions for remote off-grid and micro-grid communities.
According to Vestas, the project's early focus will be on its Wind for Prosperity initiative, which aims to provide energy-poor regions with hybrid wind and diesel power systems.
Solving the technical challenge of stabilizing and controlling off-grid and micro-grid power generation solutions is essential for Wind for Prosperity projects to succeed, notes Vestas.
By deploying affordable power integration solutions with a view on building broader future partnerships, the joint company efforts will lower costs and increase reliability of the Wind for Prosperity projects.
‘The Vestas-ABB collaboration on Wind for Prosperity is a significant step forward in bringing these projects to life,’ says Morten Albaek, Vestas' senior vice president and chief marketing officer. ‘The agreement we announce today unites each company's technological expertise to create a combined solution for exactly the type of off-grid and micro-grid wind-hybrid power generation systems that we envision for Wind for Prosperity.’
