Global environment and industrial measurement services provider Vaisala has committed to become a 100% renewable energy powered company by 2020.
According to the company, renewable energy will now power its manufacturing sites, data centers and office facilities around the world.
Vaisala estimates that it can reach its 2020 target date by working together with local energy supplier Vantaa Energy. In fact, the company says it is already practicing sustainable energy methods in its Finland headquarters. The site has on-site solar and geothermal energy production and achieved a zero-waste to landfill a few years ago. Today, the entire site uses wind power from Vantaa Energy and is thus, powered 100% by renewables.
As Vaisala is involved in the renewable energy industry through its customers, the company sees a clear benefit in advancing the development and use of renewable energy sources. The private sector needs to be the driver of change and must accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, the company notes.
