USAA To Purchase Wind Power From CPS

USAA, a financial services company based in San Antonio, has signed an agreement to offset its electricity use by participating in CPS Energy's Windtricity program.

‘We are proud to serve the energy needs of a great global company like USAA that provides world-class service to its members all over the planet,’ says CPS Energy CEO Milton Lee. ‘From now on, part of USAA's energy needs will be offset with CPS Energy's Windtricity – clean, renewable electricity generated by Texas wind farms.’

CPS Energy also says that the Penascal Wind Farm, just south of Baffin Bay on the Texas coast, is scheduled to deliver up to 76.8 MW of power by the end of the month. The utility has entered into a 15-year agreement with Iberdrola Renewables, the wind farm's developer and operator, to purchase electricity generated at Penascal. The agreement entitles CPS Energy to the output associated with 32 of the project's 2.4 MW turbines.
