Texas-based ABS Group says the U.S. government has selected the company to assist in developing inspection procedures for offshore wind projects.
According to ABS, the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has contracted the company to review domestic and international regulations, standards and best practices for offshore wind farm inspections.
Based on this review, ABS says it will develop recommendations for the types of inspections that should be conducted, the procedures that should be followed, and which components should be included in the inspections. In addition, the company will identify training that should be delivered to inspectors, with particular consideration given to basic safety training.
Just last month, ABS announced it will also serve as the certified verification agent for Deepwater Wind's 30 MW Block Island offshore wind demonstration project, to be located three miles off the coast of Block Island, R.I.
