Medford, Ore.-based UpWind Solutions Inc., a wind asset management services firm, is opening a parts and tooling center in Kansas City, Kan.
Upwind says it evaluated several locations but chose the site due to its surrounding infrastructure and proximity to more than 70% of the wind farms coming out of warranty over the next three to five years.
The facility will house a wide range of spare parts for multiple wind turbine technologies, as well as an engineering center for parts and components, including gearboxes, generators, blades and transformers.
The facility will feature inventory storage and management equipment and software. It will combine temperature-controlled areas for critical components, as well as an area for tooling and equipment used by the UpWind Solutions field technicians.
