The U.K. Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has issued planning consent for construction of the 2.4 GW Dogger Bank Teesside A and B offshore wind project.
The Forewind consortium, which comprises SSE, RWE, Statkraft and Statoil, plans to build the project in two 1.2 GW arrays featuring up to 200 wind turbines each.
If built, Dogger Bank Teesside A and B would be located between 125 km and 290 km off the U.K.'s northeast coast.
DECC says that with the onshore elements of the development to be located in Redcar and Cleveland, the project could support hundreds of jobs in the region and has the potential to generate enough green electricity to power up to 1.8 million British homes.
