The board of directors for California-based Turlock Irrigation District (TID) has authorized the purchase of approximately 100 MW of power from the Windy Point Renewable Energy Project located near Goldendale, Wash.
The Windy Point Project, developed and owned by Cascade Wind Holdings LLC, an affiliate of Cannon Power Corp., is a 450 MW wind generation project in Klickitat County, Wash., on the south-central border between Washington and Oregon. TID says the purchase is structured as a renewable energy prepay agreement with an option to purchase the project after 10 years.
TID expects that construction of its portion of the Windy Point Project, which will be built in two phases, will begin by March and be completed by May 2009.
