A trial is set to begin in a patent-infringement case GE filed in 2010 against Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Bloomberg reports.
GE accused Mitsubishi of violating a patent on technology designed to keep wind turbines connected to the grid and prevent them from becoming damaged during voltage fluctuations. A U.S. district judge already ruled that another patent in the case, related to turbine base design, was invalid.
The patent-infringement case involves 179 Mitsubishi turbines made for Iberdrola Renewables and Edison Mission Energy. In a separate case, Mitsubishi accused GE of trying to monopolize the wind turbine market – a lawsuit that is still pending.
