Suzlon Produces First Blade For S111 Turbine Model

Suzlon Group has completed production of SB54, the first blade for the S111 2.1 MW wind turbine.

According to Suzlon, the blade is the longest – and most aerodynamically sound – the company has ever produced. Designed to harness the optimal available wind resources and deliver higher energy productivity, the new blade will help ensure higher return on investment to customers.

‘This milestone has been achieved due to an effective integration between the product design, production unit and the tool design,’ says Laurens van der Sande, project manager. ‘The result is reflected in a shorter production timeline with a high yield product.’

The blades will power the S111, an upgrade from earlier turbine models. Suzlon says the S111 improves on the reliability of Suzlon's S88, S95 and S97 turbine models.

The S111 is built on the proven reliability of the S88 and S95/97 2.1 MW family that currently has over 3,100 turbines installed in 15 different countries with over 68,000,000 operating hours.

Additional blade prototypes will be erected and tested later this year in India and the U.S.
