Sumitomo Enters U.S. Wind Energy Business

The Sumitomo Corporation of America, in conjunction with Tokyo-based Sumitomo Corp., is entering the U.S. wind energy business with the purchase of an interest in the 12 MW Stanton Wind Power Facility in Martin County, Texas.

Sumitomo has purchased a 42.5% share in Stanton Wind Energy LLC from AIG Financial Products Corp., part of American International Group Inc. The Stanton wind project is developed, managed and operated by Stanton Wind Holdings LLC, a 100% subsidiary of developer Invenergy Wind North America LLC.

Sumitomo has developed two wind farms in Japan, and another is under development in China.
