The Advanced Structures and Composites Center and DeepCwind Consortium have presented student internships to the two top-scoring American Mathematical Competition participants.
Benjamin Murphy, a home-schooled student from South Paris, Maine, and Xinchi Zhang, a 12th grade student attending the Maine Central Institute, have been awarded the internships, which are valued at approximately $20,000 each.
Interns at the University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center gain hands-on work experience with engineering and science research programs, such as the one at the DeepCwind Consortium.
The DeepCwind Consortium researches deepwater offshore wind technology through a research initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The Advanced Structures and Composites Center tests hybrid composite and nanocomposite components for deepwater offshore wind structures.
