The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has added 63 MW of renewable energy with the installation of 21 Vestas V-90 wind turbines in California's Solano County.
The location of each turbine is based on several years of wind data and topographical maps enabling each machine to take full advantage of the winds that come in from the coast and spill into the Delta. The peak wind season stretches from May through September and mirrors SMUD customers' peak usage period, according to the utility. This expansion brings SMUD-owned wind capacity to 102 MW.
