Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative Inc. (SMECO) has agreed to purchase the energy and associated environmental attributes for the next 20 years from the Mehoopany wind farm in Wyoming County, Pa.

The facility, to be constructed, owned and operated by BP Wind Energy, is slated to have a nameplate capacity of 144 MW and is expected to achieve commercial operations in late 2012.

SMECO has contracted to purchase 30 MW, about 21% of the facility's output. Old Dominion Electric Cooperative will purchase 75 MW, which is about 52% of the capacity of the project.
