Waverly Light and Power, located in Waverly, Iowa, has tapped Dallas-based Shermco Industries to update turbine components on two existing 900 kW wind turbines manufactured by EWT International, based in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
Established in 1904, Waverly Light and Power is a municipally owned electric utility that now serves more than 4,600 customers in and around Waverly. In 1993, Waverly Light and Power became the first public power system in the Midwest to own and operate wind generation, positioning the utility as a leader in renewable energy.
Each of these turbines will provide a substantial percentage of Waverly's electrical requirements, Shermco adds.
