Shermco Charities, an organization funded by employees of Dallas-based Shermco Industries, will host Ride for Wind 2009, a motorcycle touring event. The event will start on June 15 in Tin Top, Texas.
Ride for Wind 2009 is one of thousands of public events taking place worldwide for Global Wind Day, an event coordinated by the Global Wind Energy Council in Brussels, Belgium. Participating motorcyclists will ride approximately 260 miles to Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas, stopping at wind farms along the way. At each stop, riders will learn about the benefits of wind power.
‘Global Wind Day raises awareness of wind resources all over the world,’ says Chris Dehart, project leader for Shermco Industries. ‘Throughout the event, participants will feel the power of the wind, which will definitely be a fun and free-spirited way to support wind energy. We hope to attract riders from all parts of the country.’
The event will raise funds for the Women of Wind Energy, an organization that supports and encourages the participation and advancement of professional women in the wind energy industry. Funds raised will help build new opportunities for women's career growth, leadership and impact in the wind industry.
