The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) wants to help cable system operators leverage the financial and environmental advantages of implementing so-called green strategies.
Through the SCTE's Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI), the organization wants to create solutions for more efficient operations and economic benefits. The SCTE has targeted several areas of focus, including renewable energy technologies that can provide operators with a return on investment within three to seven years.
SCTE will host its first event in Philadelphia this April. The agenda is expected to include development of a process for calculating baseline energy usage, updates on alternative heating and cooling solutions and approaches to reduce outside plant power costs and consumption.
