Canada-based SaskPower is tapping into the expertise of private wind developers to help find ways to integrate additional wind power into the provincial electrical system in the future.
SaskPower's Wind Power Integration and Development Unit has invited developers with experience in wind monitoring in Saskatchewan to participate in the Saskatchewan Wind Data Study, which will help determine the benefit of building future wind facilities in geographically diverse locations around the province.
‘In order to help sustain Saskatchewan's economic momentum, SaskPower must continue to replace aging equipment and consider new electrical generation options,’ says Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff. ‘We are committed to delivering electrical service in a way that's best for the people of Saskatchewan, and our ongoing commitment to wind power will help meet the growing demand for electricity in a way that ensures we meet our targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and preserve the environment for future generations.’
SaskPower is planning to develop a wind power deployment strategy for 2009, which will address the timing, ownership and procurement process for new wind power projects.
