The Dry Lake Wind Power Project, Arizona's first commercial-scale wind farm, is scheduled to be dedicated on Oct. 12. Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is expected to join federal, state and local officials to celebrate the dedication.
The 30 Suzlon S88-2.1 MW turbines at this wind power project generate 63 MW of power. Salt River Project is purchasing all of the energy and Navajo County, Ariz., will receive the tax benefits.
The Dry Lake Wind Power Project was developed by Iberdrola Renewables and is located on a combination of private, state and federal lands. Approximately one-third of the project is on the private Rocking Chair Ranch, with one-third each on Arizona State Land Department and Bureau of Land Management public lands.
