Rocky Mountain Power, a Salt Lake City-based utility, plans to build a wind energy facility in Carbon County, Wyoming. Currently known as the Seven Mile Hill Wind Energy Development Project, the wind farm will consist of 66 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 99 MW.
The Seven Mile Hill site was selected because studies showed a favorable wind resource in the area, Rocky Mountain Power says, and the site is located near existing transmission facilities. The company plans to begin construction as soon as all necessary permits and approvals are in place.
With an in-service date in October 2008, the Seven Mile Hill project will contribute to the 2,000 MW of renewable energy that Rocky Mountain Power expects to include in its generation resource mix by 2013, the utility adds.
