Report Details Wind Growth In U.S., BRIC Countries


The global wind market grew by 27% from 2000 to 2010, and cumulative installation grew from 17.4 GW in 2000 to 196.8 GW in 2010, according to a new report from Lucintel.

The growth trajectory of wind energy in 2010 was led by China, the U.S., Germany, Spain and India, which together contributed 74 % of the global cumulative installed capacity in 2010. The report describes the future growth prospects of the wind market in the U.S. and Brazil, Russia, India and China – also known as the BRIC countries.

It is expected that the wind energy market in the U.S. and BRIC countries is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17% during 2010-2020, making the cumulative installation reach 470 GW, according to the report.
