Global cable provider Prysmian Group has received a contract worth EUR 730 million to design, produce and install power cable systems for an offshore wind farm cluster located in the German Baltic Sea. The contract was from 50Hertz Offshore GmbH, a subsidiary of 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, a German grid operator.

According to Prysmian, the West of Adlergrund connection will involve the design, supply and installation of multiple high-voltage submarine cable systems between planned offshore wind parks, located northeast of the island of Ruegen to the Lubmin substation in northeast Germany.

The 220 kV HVAC three-core extruded cables will be made at Prysmian facilities in Finland and Italy, notes the company, adding that Marine cable laying will be performed using a ship specifically geared for laying offshore wind cable. The production and installation of the West of Adlergrund cable systems will start in 2015, notes Prysmian.
