Germany-based PROKON has selected The Switch's direct-drive permanent-magnet generator (PMG) and full-power converter package. The agreement for 3 MW PMGs and 3 MW full-power converters enables PROKON to start its own turbine development and manufacturing, according to the company.
The turbines will mainly be used for PROKON's wind farms. The optimized drivetrain packages will enable the company to utilize permanent-magnet technology for reliability, maximized yields and high-quality power that matches international grid codes, according to The Switch.
‘This cooperation with The Switch marks a major milestone for PROKON to now manage the entire process from wind turbine manufacturing through to operations and maintenance,’ says Ralf Dohmann, managing director of PROKON.
