Pattern Energy Group says its 147 MW Mont Sainte-Marguerite Wind project has obtained a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hydro-Quebec.
The 147 MW Mont Sainte-Marguerite Wind project, located south of Quebec City, will be powered by 46 Siemens 3.2 MW direct-drive wind turbines. Components for the turbines – as well as labor – will be sourced from Quebec, notes Pattern. The project site, which is located on one of the highest elevations in southern Quebec, has one of the strongest wind resources in the entire region.
The company came to the project by first acquiring a percentage in the wind farm from Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Canada. Pattern now owns 100% of the project. Nonetheless, RES Canada will continue to co-develop the project, which is expected to begin construction in the third quarter of 2016.
According to Pattern, wind farm construction will result in the employment of nearly 200 workers and create 10 to 12 permanent jobs for locals once the wind farm is operational in late 2017.
