Parsons Brinckerhoff Purchases Wind Power

Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) has purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs) for the wind power equivalent to the electricity it uses annually at its corporate headquarters in New York City.

The purchase of RECs for 3.1 million kWh of electricity is made through Community Energy Inc. PB's purchase of the RECs guarantees that carbon-free energy generated by wind farms is produced and fed into the national grid to offset the conventional power PB receives at its offices at One Penn Plaza and 333 Seventh Ave. in Manhattan. PB will continue to draw electricity from the local power grid.

‘As a business with headquarters in New York City since 1885, we are pleased to be able to support Mayor Michael Bloomberg's goal of a 30-percent reduction in the city's greenhouse gas emissions by 2030,’ says Keith Hawksworth, CEO of PB.

PB has also joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership, a group of organizations that have made voluntary commitments to purchase electricity from renewable sources.
