Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) has approved a long-term renewable energy purchase agreement to purchase all the output of a 60 MW wind energy facility to be built in Richardson County, Neb.
Through the 20-year agreement with Flat Water Wind Farm LLC, a subsidiary of juwi Group/JW Prairie Wind Power of Lawrence, Kan., OPPD will purchase all of the output and renewable energy certificates from the Richardson County wind facility.
‘Land in this area has produced food for our dinner tables for generations,’ says Fred Ulrich, chairman of OPPD's board. ‘Now, the wind in this area will generate power for our electrical needs for years to come.’
Construction of the facility is expected to begin later this year or in 2010, and commercial operation is expected by the end of 2010, according to OPPD. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
