China's chief negotiator for United Nations climate change talks says the country is drafting a new climate change law and plans to explore a low-carbon development plan, news service Xinhua reports.

Xie Zhenhua, vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, indicated that the country considers climate change legislation very important. He added that China has already published relevant regulations concerning the management of Clean Development Mechanism projects and international cooperation on climate change.

The National People's Congress approved the country's 12th Five-Year Plan in March, with combating climate change being a key element.
