Nova Scotia Power (NS Power) has selected wind energy developer Acciona Energy to build a 30 MW wind energy project in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Acciona will construct, own and operate the Amherst Wind Energy Project. NS Power and Acciona Wind Energy Canada Inc. have reached a 25-year power purchase agreement for up to 30 MW of wind power from the site. The Amherst wind park will have 20 1.5 MW Acciona wind turbines. The turbines will be in service by the end of 2009.
‘We are pleased to have a world leader in wind development and technology building another wind farm in Nova Scotia,’ says Ralph Tedesco, president and CEO of NS Power. ‘By the end of 2009, the province will have five times the amount of wind energy as exists [in Nova Scotia] today. Partnerships with companies like Acciona to bring new renewable energy to the province are a key element of NS Power's cleaner, greener strategy.’
