NRG Energy Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Padoma Wind Power LLC, has begun construction on the Elbow Creek Wind Project, a 122 MW wind farm in Howard County, Texas.
‘Adding Elbow Creek to NRG's generation fleet increases our portfolio fuel diversity in Texas,’ says Jan Paulin, senior vice president of NRG, and president and CEO of Padoma Wind Power. ‘Through these wind projects, as well as others in varying stages of development in Texas and California, Padoma will build on NRG's commitment to expanding its ownership of zero-fuel, zero-emission wind power.’
Construction of the Elbow Creek Wind Project is expected to take nine months with commercial operation achieved by year-end. The project will use 53 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbine generators.
The Elbow Creek Wind Project will be built on an approximately 6,700-acre tract of land. The ground elevation where wind turbines will be installed is approximately 2,800 feet above sea level. Early land rights to the project were acquired from Wind Plus Holdings Inc.
