NPPD Signs PPA For Broken Bow Wind Project

0

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), along with Midwest Wind Energy LLC, Edison Mission Group (EME) and its affiliate, Broken Bow Wind LLC, has announced that a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) has been finalized.

As a result, construction on the 80 MW Broken Bow facility is anticipated to begin in October 2011 and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2012.

The project is a result of a request for proposals issued by NPPD in 2009. In February, a PPA was reached between NPPD, Midwest Wind and EME on the Laredo Ridge wind farm, also 80 MW, which is currently under construction near Petersburg, Neb. It is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

Broken Bow Wind is the third project by Midwest Wind Energy and Edison Mission Energy to have a PPA with NPPD. Under terms of the agreement, Broken Bow Wind will own and operate the facility and NPPD will purchase the electric output.
