The Nebraska Public Power District (NPDD) and Crofton Hills Wind Farm have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will result in the construction of a wind farm near Crofton, Neb. The 42 MW Crofton Hills Wind Farm will be operational in 2009.
NPPD says the project is a direct result of NPPD's efforts to expand participation in wind development by issuing a request for proposals last July for wind projects with a capacity of up to 100 MW. Under terms of the agreement, Community Wind Energy Transmission LLC will operate and manage the facility, and NPPD will purchase the output.
According to the companies, ownership in the wind power facility is structured according to the Nebraska Rural Community-Based Energy Development Act. The act requires that at least 33% of the PPA payments over the 20-year agreement flow to Nebraska residents.
