The North Carolina Utilities Commission has approved an application to build a 300 MW wind farm in the eastern part of the state, Reuters reports.
Iberdrola Renewables has proposed to build the Desert Wind Power project, which is estimated to cost approximately $600 million and would be the first commercial-scale wind project in the state.
Construction would begin later this year, according to Iberdrola, if the project can gain all of the permits needed for the project.
