The Nordex Group has connected the 134.4 MW Amakhala Emoyeni project to the South African grid – the manufacturer’s largest wind farm in the country to date.
Installation was completed in June before the wind farm passed necessary grid connection tests in mid-July. The customer, Cennergi – a joint venture between Exxaro and Tata Power – has now officially commissioned the turbines.
The wind farm, situated in the Eastern Cape Province between Bedford and Cookhouse, comprises 56 N117/2400 towers.
Nordex’s turnkey installation involved delivering and setting up the turbines, as well as laying the foundations and cables. The manufacturer will now take charge of servicing the turbines for a minimum of 10 years.
