The Nordex Group has received a follow-up contract for a further 22 AW125/3000 turbines. Once again, its customer is Acciona Energia, which previously placed an order for 22 of these turbines for the first construction phase of the Mount Gellibrand wind farm in Australia.
Located in Colac, roughly 100 kilometers west of Melbourne, the wind farm will be going online in July 2018. The Nordex Group currently has an installed capacity of around 240 MW in Australia.
Nordex will be shipping the necessary components starting this fall, upon which Acciona Energia will be installing the 132 MW wind farm.
A large part of the 87-meter-tall steel tube towers will be sourced locally, while the rotor blades will be produced in Southeast Asia and the nacelles in Spain. This way, Nordex says it will be able to achieve an optimum balance between costs and local manufacturing content. The order includes a service contract for an initial period of two years.
