The board of the Farmers Electric Cooperative (FEC) has agreed to purchase the output from a Curry County, N.M.-based wind farm being co-developed by Broadview Energy and National Renewable Solutions.

According to National Renewable Solutions, the 18 MW wind farm project is scheduled to start construction in late August and to begin commercial operation in mid-November, in time to qualify for state and federal production tax credits.

According to Broadview Energy, this project is considered to be a first phase of the long-term plan for up to 500 MW in Curry County, N.M., and Deaf Smith County, Texas.

FEC plans to make the required filing regarding the purchase with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission by the end of July.
