Juno Beach, Fla.-based NextEra Energy Resources LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group Inc., has entered into an agreement to purchase three operating wind projects with a combined capacity of 184.5 MW from Babcock & Brown.
Under the terms of the agreement, a wholly owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources will purchase the three wind projects for approximately $352 million.
The 79.5 MW Majestic Wind Energy Center, located in Carson County, Texas, consists of 54 GE 1.5 MW turbines. All of the output from this project is sold to Southwestern Electric Power Co., a subsidiary of AEP, under a long-term contract.
The 54 MW Butler Ridge Wind Energy Center, located in Dodge County, Wis., consists of 36 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines. A portion of the output from the project is sold to Wisconsin Public Power under a long-term contract. The remaining output is expected to be sold to Midwest utilities.
The 51 MW Wessington Springs Wind Energy Center, located in Jerauld County, S.D., consists of 34 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines. All of the output from this project is sold to Heartland Consumer Power District under a long-term contract.
The transaction is subject to closing conditions. NextEra Energy Resources expects to complete the transaction by the end of the year.
