During a meeting of shareholders, Juno Beach, Fla.-based NextEra Energy says that its NextEra Energy Resources subsidiary added more than 1.5 GW of new U.S. wind projects to its portfolio in 2012, the largest wind program ever completed in the U.S. in a single year. The company's wind portfolio operates in 19 states and four Canadian provinces, representing a total capital investment of more than $15 billion.
The company also noted during the shareholders' meeting that Lone Star Transmission LLC, its 330-mile rate-regulated transmission line in Texas, was energized on time and under budget. NextEra Energy's nearly $7 billion in investments in the state also include more than 5.4 GW of generating capacity and the Texas-based retail electricity provider Gexa, which serves more than 200,000 residential and industrial customers across 14 states and the District of Columbia.
