NextEra Energy Resources has acquired Plains and Eastern Clean Line Oklahoma LLC and all of the assets for the Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project in Oklahoma.
Under development by Clean Line Energy Partners, the Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project is expected to deliver 4 GW of wind power from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to utilities and customers in Tennessee, Arkansas and other markets in the Mid-South and Southeast.
The transaction will continue the Plains & Eastern project’s forward momentum and install a new sponsor to a transmission solution to the wind sector in Oklahoma and the Southwest Power Pool.
The Plains & Eastern Clean Line has been under development in Oklahoma for eight years. The project underwent an environmental review with substantial stakeholder input and received regulatory approvals and major environmental permits necessary for construction, according to Clean Line Energy.
Clean Line Energy says it has acquired a significant portion of the right-of-way necessary to construct the project. With its affiliates, NextEra Energy Resources – with 1.7 GW of operating capacity in the state – is the largest owner of wind generation in Oklahoma, notes Clean Line Energy.
Under the agreement with NextEra Energy Resources, Clean Line Energy retains project assets east of Oklahoma, and NextEra Energy Resources owns only the project assets in the state of Oklahoma.
