Natural Power, RES and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (FEUP) in Portugal have signed a research and development (R&D) joint venture focused on developing the next-generation VENTOS computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model for wind energy applications.
The R&D program will focus on key areas of immediate interest to the wind energy industry, including non-neutral atmospheric flows, turbine wakes and forestry.
VENTOS is a family of computational tools for solving complex fluid equations, which are used in combination with high-quality on-site measurements to predict wind conditions that will occur at each turbine location of a proposed wind farm.
