New Mexico's clean energy economy has significant potential to deliver rapid increases in high-paying jobs, according to a report released by the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Policy Program.
‘New Mexico's clean economy has plenty of room to grow and create lots of high-quality jobs,’ says the Brookings Institution's Mariel Nanasi. ‘This report is encouraging and should help guide our elected officials to strengthen policies and programs that support growth of our state's clean economy, particularly in the energy sector.’
With 17,725 clean energy jobs, New Mexico currently ranks 36th among the 50 states. Between 2003 and 2010, New Mexico's clean economy grew by 6% annually, according to the report. The estimated median wage for New Mexico's clean economy jobs is $39,327 compared to $34,536 for all jobs in New Mexico.
