Moventas, a Finland-based wind gear manufacturer and service provider, has confirmed plans to set up a wind gearbox service workshop in St. Paul, Minn.
Although the company already has several U.S. locations, it says it is now investing in the Midwest because there are many wind original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) located in the region. Moventas adds that the investment is part of the company's service strategy to localize its operations and notes that the company services both its own brand and most gearbox brands in the market.
‘With this investment, we will be able to serve our clientele with full capability – e.g. a full-scale load testing facility – in this rapidly growing area. This underscores our position as a leading wind industry service provider,’ says Moventas Service Senior Vice President Antti Turunen.
Moventas has a wind gearbox assembly facility and workshop in Portland, Ore., a workshop and field team in Big Spring, Texas, and a 24/7 remote condition monitoring center in Chicago. In Canada, the company also has a workshop and field team in Cambridge, Ontario.
Furthermore, Moventas operates four custom-made mobile service units across the U.S., which carrying out up-tower repair and overhaul. One of the mobile units already operates within the Midwest region.
Moventas expects to open the new St. Paul workshop by Feb. 1, 2015.
