Mortenson Canada Corp. has been selected by Capital Power Corp. to build the Quality Wind Project, which will be located approximately 10 km northeast of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
With construction slated to begin this month, Mortenson will erect 79 Vestas 1.8 MW wind turbines on 95-meter towers generating a total of 142.2 MW of power.
The project also calls for the construction of 22 km of 230 kV transmission line, a 230 kV substation and approximately 44 km of roadway.
Mortenson will provide balance-of-plant engineering, procurement and construction services for the project. The wind project is scheduled to be completed and begin producing power by the end of 2012.
In March, BC Hydro selected the Quality Wind Project for a power purchase agreement. The project received its environmental assessment certificate from the British Columbia government in July.
