Mortenson Construction and enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, have completed the 201 MW Nobles Wind Project in Reading, Minn. The project represents about half of the 400 MW that the enXco-Mortenson partnership plans to install in Minnesota by this summer.
The companies are building the 205.5 MW Lakefield Wind Project about 30 miles from the Nobles project site in the southwest corner of Minnesota. This project is expected to be completed by September.
Together the projects will require erecting 271 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, representing 18% of the total installed wind power in Minnesota.
Construction began on the Nobles project in May 2010, and the last turbine was erected a month ahead of schedule, despite record rainfall in the area.
Indianapolis Power and Light will purchase the power generated from the Lakefield project under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
