Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction's renewable energy group has been awarded the Supplier of the Year award for operational safety and health by Iberdrola. Mortenson is the first U.S. company to be recognized with this award.

Iberdrola's Supplier of the Year award recognizes suppliers based on their technical and productive capacity and their commitment to quality, excellence, respect for the environment, workplace safety and sustainable development.

‘Safety is one of the most important criteria in selecting contractors for our projects,’ says Gary LeMoine, director of environment health safety security for Iberdrola. ‘Mortenson helps set the bar for us worldwide.’

Mortenson is currently the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for Iberdrola's 201.6 MW Penascal II Wind Project in Sarita, Texas, and the 300 MW Streator Cayuga Ridge project in Odell, Ill.

Mortenson has completed construction on 10 projects for Iberdrola, totaling more than 1,240 MW.
