The energy group of Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction was recently awarded a Gold Hard Hat Award for outstanding industrial/manufacturing project for construction performance on the Cedar Creek Wind Farm in Grover, Colo.
The annual Gold Hard Hat Awards, sponsored by McGraw Hill's Colorado Construction magazine, is a competition to determine the best construction projects completed in Colorado in a calendar year. Judging for the competition is done by a panel of industry experts and based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project's contribution to the community and the industry, solutions to unique design and construction challenges, and overall excellence.
Mortenson is completing the 274-wind turbine project in Cedar Creek, which is expected to have the capacity to produce 300 MW. The owners of the project, Babcock & Brown and BP Alternative Energy, awarded the project to Mortenson in December 2006. It is the sixth wind farm built by Mortenson for Babcock & Brown.
