Ming Yang Plans To Test 6 MW Offshore Wind Turbine In Norway

0

China Ming Yang Wind Power has announced a precursory agreement with Marin Energi Testcenter AS to erect a 6 MW Super Compact Drive (SCD) turbine prototype at the Karmoy demonstration area off the coast of Karmoy Island, Norway.

Ming Yang says its SCD wind turbine utilizes smaller permanent-magnet power generators coupled with a smaller gearbox, housed in a water-cooled nacelle. The turbine also features a two-bladed design and can lock the blades in a horizontal position to withstand extreme offshore weather conditions, the company adds.

The proposed partnership and pilot project are subject to certain conditions, including a detailed agreement that is expected to be entered into by both parties later this year.

‘We are pleased to enter into this heads of agreement and looking forward to the installation of our SCD 6 MW offshore prototype in Norway, and this marks another milestone in Ming Yang's offshore strategy,’ comments Chuanwei Zhang, chairman and CEO of Ming Yang. ‘We are confident that our innovative SCD wind turbine generators can provide an effective solution for offshore wind power projects in China and beyond.’
