The Michigan House of Representatives has passed a plan proposed by State Rep. Jeff Mayes that will strengthen renewable ‘anchor zones’ in the state in an effort to target large, high-tech employers and create jobs for Michigan workers.
The plan includes bipartisan provisions that increase transparency and strengthens the final bill package, which will help companies like Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor expand operations.
‘Helping Hemlock and Dow grow their operations to serve as anchors for our growing alternative energy industry will attract more jobs and investment to Bay County,’ says Mayes.
The plan is designed to strengthen anchor zones by clarifying rules relating to the tax credits received by companies within the zones. Under current law, the tax credit provided to businesses is smaller than originally intended.
The plan is part of a package of bills that will grow and expand the number of SmartZones in the state, as well as allowing the establishment of certified alternative energy parks, a designation that provides municipalities another tool in attracting alternative energy businesses to Michigan.
