Gov. Bob McDonnell, R-Va., has withdrawn from the Governors' Wind Energy Coalition, the Washington Post reports. The governor says he left the group after it sent out a letter expressing support for a national renewable electricity standard that included his name without his permission.
The governor says he supports a voluntary – not mandatory – renewable energy standard.
McDonnell recently signed a number of renewable energy bills into law, including one that creates a Virginia Offshore Wind Development Authority.
